As our lives become busier, it’s becoming more common for people to carry their multi-tasking habits into their car. At our Massachusetts Nissan dealership, we know the dangers involved in driving a car when you’re not focused on the road. Here are some tips to minimize distractions while driving, and reduce your risk of accidents:

Cell Phone Use

If you’re driving, you should avoid making calls on your cell phone. In Massachusetts, drivers under the age of 18 are prohibited from using their phone at all while behind the wheel, and drivers of all ages are not permitted to text while driving.

If you must make a phone call while driving, use your phone’s hands free features to dial with voice commands and use either a headset phone or your speaker phone so you can keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

It should go without saying that surfing the internet on a cell phone, iPad or other device while driving is extremely dangerous, too! You need to take your eyes off the road for long periods of time to look information up, and whatever it is can wait until you have safely arrived at your destination!

Radio

When driving your Nissan around Boston or out of the city, most people enjoy listening to the radio or CD player to keep them company. Remember to keep the volume at a reasonable level so you can hear emergency vehicles in the distance and get out of their way. Lower volume will also help you keep your mind on your driving.
