If you are not a mechanic or don’t have a ton of knowledge about how a car works, you may not be aware of how your car suspension system works. The suspension plays an important role in your comfort while driving. If you have a good idea of what makes the suspension work, you’re more likely to know if there are problems with the suspension that needs to be fixed.
Massachusetts Nissan offers the following details to help you understand the basics of car suspension systems:
The Struts
For cars that have both front and back suspension systems, the front is often referred to as “struts”.
The Shocks
The back suspension system of a car is called “shocks”.
The Springs
Springs are a major part of car suspension systems. There are three different types of springs that exist: leaf springs, torsion bars and coil springs.
Shock Absorbers
Shock absorbers work to absorb some of the shock experienced by the car as it drives over rough roads. They prevent the car from bouncing all over the place.
How to Recognize Suspension System Problems
Sometimes you will start to feel every bump as you drive over rough roads. If your car rattles a lot, or has what is known as a ‘rough ride’ there’s a good chance your suspension system has started to wear out and you need to have it repaired or replaced. Give Coastal Nissan a call, and we will take a look at your suspension system for you.
