Boston, Massachusetts enjoys all four seasons and weather that ranges from hot and humid in the summer to cold and icy in the winter. Throughout the seasons, Boston drivers are often faced with windy conditions, with wind strong enough to knock out power and make your car sway from side to side! Driving in windy weather can be challenging. Boston Nissan offers the following tips for driving through windy and stormy conditions safely:
Prepare for Gusts of Wind – Wind rarely blows at the same speed and in the same direction all the time. You’ll want to keep both hands on your steering wheel during a windy drive, because you never know when the wind will change direction or get stronger and it really can push your car around if you’re not expecting it.
Keep Your Eye Out for the Other Vehicles on the Road – This is especially important if you’re driving on a multi-lane highway during windy weather conditions. Keep a close eye on larger vehicles like campers or tractor trailers or anyone towing anything. The wind can really affect these vehicles and have them all over the road and well into the surrounding lanes.
Remember Other Weather Conditions – Wind is generally accompanied by other weather conditions. In the winter you might be dealing with snow or ice; in the summer you might be driving through a thunderstorm with high wind. Just remember that when wind is combined with other weather conditions, it can cause the roads to become slippery on top of the force against the car.
