This Boston Nissan dealer knows that driving during summer storms can be tense at times. With the rainy summer season just ahead, it’s best to know a few simple driving tips to get you and your Nissan safely through the tumultuous season.

Before even leaving for a trip—regardless of how short—take these few simple steps from your Boston Nissan dealer to ensure a safe drive:

  • Make sure your wipers are in good condition. Some stores even sell specialty wipers with more power or length to ensure better visibility.
  • Think about applying a rain treatment to your windshield. It helps the water bead up and stream off the glass thereby giving you more visibility.
  • Leave several minutes early to allow for unforeseen driving conditions.
  • Choose a route with as many main roads as possible. They will be better graded for run off and also receive more maintenance.
  • While driving in rainy conditions, your Boston car dealerships suggest staying several extra car lengths back from the car ahead to allow for more reaction time should something happen. The faster you’re driving, the more distance you should allow.
  • Use your headlights even in small showers and during the day so other cars can see you more easily. If it’s raining heavier at night, switch to your low beams as they are better able to cut through the weather and provide better visibility.
  • If driving conditions are bad, slow down; speed limits are set according to optimal conditions. If the speed limit is 40 MPH normally, you may want to drive 10 to 15 miles per hour slower to adjust for the conditions.

By taking just a few precautions, you can help ensure you and your Nissan make it through the rainy summers safely.
