Car accidents caused by one of the following reasons can often be avoided if the driver is alert and prepared. To help you stay safe in your new or used Boston Nissan, Coastal Nissan offers the following tips:

Obey Traffic Laws

Changing lanes without putting using a turn signal and taking the time to check for other cars commonly causes accidents. Riding to close to the car in front of you, known as tailgating, commonly results in rear-ending the car in front if they have to stop quickly. Driving too fast gives you less reaction time and can result in deadly accidents. Obey the traffic laws and reduce your chance of wrecking your Nissan, or injuring yourself or others.

Do Not Allow Distractions

Even if your state has not yet prohibited cell phone use while driving, using your phone to make calls or text is a distraction and often causes car accidents. Anything that causes you to take your eyes off the road or think about something other than your driving is a potential distraction and can result in an accident. Try to remain focused on the road and the other drivers so you can avoid a car crash.

Road and Weather Conditions

If you’re driving through a construction zone where the traffic pattern has been altered, you’re in an area at risk for car accidents. If the weather is causing slippery road conditions or poor visibility, be on high alert as these conditions regularly cause accidents. Adjust your speed and driving to the conditions around you.

Even if you consider yourself an excellent driver, don’t let distractions or weather conditions cause you to get in an accident. Be alert and watch what other drivers are doing, as they may not be paying attention and could be the cause of an accident if you’re not prepared to get out of their way.
