Buying a car can be a little like falling in love. When we do, we tend to overlook certain things that may come back to haunt us. If you’re a hopeless auto romantic, do your best to keep your emotions in check. And if you think you can remain unbiased, Coastal Nissan Boston has the following suggestions for test driving any of our used Nissan vehicles.
Lift the Hood
You don’t have to be a grease-monkey to perform a basic search for signs of abuse under a car’s hood. Check for any of the following:
- A strong, unpleasant odor.
- Sludgy deposits in the oil tank.
- Cracked hoses or fan belts.
Listen
More often than not, the first thing we do when we slide behind the wheel of a car is test the stereo system. This is only helpful if you value listening to your favorite Boston FM station more than you do the reliability of your car. So keep the stereo off, and the windows rolled up as you test the A/C and heater. Listen for abnormal sounds when you turn, brake, and accelerate.
Don’t Rush
Take as much time as you need to ensure you’re comfortable with the car’s performance. Don’t cover every Boston block, but don’t just drive down the street and back either. Needless to say, a good salesman will encourage you to do so.
