After you’ve had your used Nissan on the Massachusetts roads for a while, you may notice the signs that your brakes are wearing out and need replacing. Even Boston new cars eventually need new brakes; how can you tell yours are on the way out? Some vehicles may have a brake light in the dashboard, but this indicates you are low on brake fluid—it doesn’t tell you when your brake pads are wearing thin and need replacing. Fortunately there’s something called a “wear indicator” that alerts you when it’s time to take the car to the mechanic to get the brakes checked.

If you hear a distinctive screech or squealing sound when you hit the brakes, you are hearing the wear indicator at work. This noise isn’t to be confused with the sound new and used Nissan cars make when you brake in humid conditions or when braking lightly. The wear indicator is a very particular noise, and once your brakes have worn out enough your car will make that noise every time you hit the brakes. You may also experience grinding or reduced braking power. Don’t delay when the wear indicator begins, get to your Coastal Nissan mechanic at one of your MA dealerships as soon as possible and have your brakes fixed. Once the wear indicators start, your ability to brake properly could be compromised.
